SCHOOL LEAVERS JOHNNIE AND PAUL TEACH YOUNG PEOPLE A TRADE
JOPA Carpentry workshop is located in the village of Buwenge, Uganda. Two school leavers, Johnnie and Paul, set up the school 23 years ago. They are now teaching young people themselves to give them a chance to a better future. We ask for your support to provide JOPA Carpentry with good quality tools.
Johnnie and Paul are the founders of training institute JOPA Carpentry. The school was established in 1994 and has since then given many disadvantaged young people the opportunity to learn a trade. Johnnie and Paul know exactly what is like to have no chances in life. They decided to leave school and start working 23 years ago. In
order to survive they tried all kind of ways to earn money but there was hardly any job available. They learned it the hard way and experienced many setbacks. They were fortunate to finally end up in a community where they had the opportunity to learn carpentry, assembling and glass cutting.
‘These skills have really made the difference for us and improved our lives significantly’.
Sharing life experience
This experience inspired Johnnie and Paul to give a chance to other young people who are in the same position by sharing their skills. In 1994 Johnnie and Paul formed Jopa, a community organisation with the mission to provide orphans, school leavers, children with HIV/AIDS, and young mothers with vocational skills. This enables them to make products themselves to sell at the local market. So far, more than 155 students have received
quality education or started a job, but still there are still many young people who are less fortunate and need support, which Jopa Carpentry is keen to offer them.
Will you help us?
We want more young people to be able learn a trade from Johnnie and Paul. Will you help us? To be able to send the necessary carpentry, metalworking and assembly tools, we need € 3,663. Any amount is most welcome. You can also make a donation at our iDeal page.
