‘OUR PROGRAM HAS RECEIVED NEW ENERGY THANKS TO GERED GEREEDSCHAP’

Paul Ogwang has been an instructor in Motor Vehicle Technology at Pioneer Technical Institute (PTI) for four years and has faced many challenges during this time. In this interview, he shares his experiences and the impact of Gered Gereedschap on the program and the students.

Paul, can you tell us about your experiences as an instructor at PTI?

Paul: “Teaching at PTI is a unique experience, but it is not without its challenges. One of the biggest problems we face as instructors is the inability of many students to pay school fees and other necessary costs. This directly affects their education and motivation. Additionally, we also deal with limited resources and materials, which prevents us from effectively training our students in practical skills.”

How has Gered Gereedschap helped you?

Paul: “Gered Gereedschap has supported us in various ways. They have helped us in three key areas where we faced difficulties: tools, training for instructors, and sponsoring needy students. Some students were so poor that they couldn’t pay their school fees. Gered Gereedschap stepped in to sponsor them, significantly increasing their chances of completing their education.”

What was the impact of the new tools on teaching?

Paul: “Before Gered Gereedschap’s support, we had a severe shortage of tools, and the quality was very poor as well. Since they provided us with better and more advanced tools and machinery, the situation has improved significantly. This has increased the students’ motivation and helped them appreciate the course more. The quality of our teaching materials is now much better, which allows us to provide a more effective and practical training program.”

How has the training for instructors changed the way you teach?

Paul: “The training we received from Gered Gereedschap has helped us enormously as instructors. We have learned new and better skills to convey information to our students. These improvements have significantly facilitated the delivery of our training curriculum. Although we still face shortages of some materials, I realize that thanks to Gered Gereedschap’s support, we are now in a much better position than before.”

WHAT HAVE WE ACHIEVED?

Professionalized the Motor Vehicle Technology and Fashion & Design programs at Pioneer Technical Institute, equipped workshops with tools and machinery, trained teachers, provided scholarships for underprivileged youth, and offered starter kits (tools or sewing machines) to graduates.
