‘THAT SCHOLARSHIP HAS REALLY MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE’

Alice Alikoba is a 21-year-old Fashion and Design student at Pioneer Technical Institute (PTI). Her story of perseverance and success is a great example of how support from Gered Gereedschap has helped her pursue her dreams. In this interview, Alice shares her experiences and the impact this support has had on her life.

Alice, can you tell us about your background and the challenges you have faced?

Alice: “I come from a large family of eight children, with five girls and three boys. I am the second youngest. My parents struggle financially, and they often cannot afford school fees for me and my siblings. Because of this, I faced many challenges regarding school fees, which sometimes meant I couldn’t attend school. After completing my national education certificate in 2021, I had serious doubts about being able to afford my further education at the technical institute.”

How has the scholarship helped you?

Alice: “The scholarship I received from Gered Gereedschap has made a world of difference. Before, I was constantly worried about school fees, and I didn’t know if I would be able to finish my education. Thanks to this support, I can now fully concentrate on my studies. They no longer send me home due to a lack of school fees, and that gives me so much peace of mind. I am now happy because I have the opportunity to complete my education.”

How has the support from Gered Gereedschap affected the quality of the program?

Alice: “Gered Gereedschap has also provided our institute with good sewing machines, which my classmates and I make full use of. This allows us to spend enough time on practical lessons. I have learned how to use the electric machines they provided, and they are truly amazing. They make our work much easier, and I feel like I am getting closer to success.”

What are your future plans after completing this program?

Alice: “After completing this course, I plan to pursue a diploma and take an instructor training course. My dream is to help others, especially students who are in a situation similar to mine. I want to give them the chance to learn and grow, just as I have been given the opportunity now.”
