‘THIS TRAINING HAS CHANGED MY LIFE’
Mohammed Abdul-Nasir, 25 years old, had little future prospects after obtaining his high school diploma. Due to his parents’ financial situation, it was not possible for him to continue his studies.
He became unemployed and completely dependent on others for his livelihood.
“It was incredibly hard at home. I couldn’t take care of myself, nor could I support my family – my parents and siblings,” he says.
Everything changed when Mohammed Abdul-Nasir got the chance to enroll in a training program at the NOYED-Ghana Youth Training Centre in Tamale. There, he learned the necessary skills in welding and metalworking, which completely turned his life around for the better.
The young man who was once dependent on others can now financially support his family. His mother earns a bit of extra money as a trader, while his father, a former farmer, has become bedridden due to old age. Despite the fact that Mohammed is currently working as an apprentice in someone else’s workshop and work can be slow at times, he earns enough to provide for his family’s basic needs.
“I am hopeful that my situation will improve even more once I am able to open my own workshop,” he says. Mohammed is grateful for the opportunity to be part of this project.
“I’m really happy that I was given this opportunity. This training has truly helped me, and the skills I’ve gained are making a big difference. I am so thankful to have been part of this project,” he adds.
