‘WE TEACH YOUNG PEOPLE MORE THAN JUST A TRADE, WE GIVE THEM THE TOOLS TO SHAPE THEIR FUTURE’
Anderson Bernard, Metalworking Teacher at Music Crossroads Malawi
“I started in 2015 as a metalworking teacher at Music Crossroads, and since then, I have seen countless young people grow in their craft. What makes our program so unique is the focus on practical, hands-on education. We don’t want our students to just learn the theory, but to truly understand how to apply their skills in real-life situations.”

“Our courses are short, usually four months, but we make sure they are intensive and effective. We teach the young people everything they need to know about metalworking, from various techniques to designing products based on customer requirements. Each student receives the guidance they need to reach a level where they are ready for the job market or even to start their own workshop.”
“It gives me great satisfaction to see our students go on to work independently after their training. There is a high demand for skilled young people in the community, and many of our former students are now successfully employed. It’s wonderful to see how they not only learn a trade but also gain the confidence to shape their own futures.”
WHAT HAVE WE ACHIEVED?Successful vocational training expanded with two additional workshops: a metal workshop and a combined tailoring and shoemaking workshop. Gered Gereedschap was responsible for the construction of the workshops, using shipping containers, and also provided the complete equipment with the necessary tools, machines, and sewing machines.
