Julia is one of the female students in the program. She comes from an environment where it is uncommon for women to pursue vocational training. ‘At first, I thought metalworking was a male-dominated field, but this initiative by ASUNAFO-North and Gered Gereedschap has proven otherwise. Being part of the program not only gave me valuable practical skills but also helped me see myself as a feminist advocate for the role of women in traditionally male-dominated professions.
Juliana praises the scholarship and the training: ‘The free tuition was a huge relief, allowing me to focus on my education without the burden of financial stress. It’s truly an incredible opportunity; without the scholarship, this education would not have been attainable for me. The practical experience and the opportunity to work on real projects were invaluable. I now see a promising future for myself in metalworking and am excited to contribute to my community.’

We have given 75 young people from cocoa farming families – with a special focus on girls – the opportunity to build a future as metalworkers. The metalworking training has been professionalized by, among other things, equipping workshops with tools and machines, training teachers, refining the curriculum, and providing starter kits.
