ON THE PATH TO ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE WITH RENTED TOOLS

In the vibrant Jinja region of Uganda, Gered Gereedschap has established a network of tool rental workshops that enable craftsmen to achieve their dreams. These initiatives have emerged under the EQUIP program, with the goal of supporting entrepreneurs in the region and providing them with access to the necessary tools to develop their skills and succeed.

A SOLUTION TO A COMMON PROBLEM

For many craftsmen in Jinja, access to quality tools is often a significant obstacle. In a country where many young people want to start their own businesses, the investment in tools can be the first financial hurdle. This is where the rental workshops play a crucial role. They not only offer the opportunity to rent high-quality tools but also help improve the skills of users and enable them to generate income.

COLLABORATION WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES

The rental workshops have been set up in collaboration with existing local businesses, such as metalworking shops, carpentry workshops, and auto garages. This means that craftsmen not only have access to tools but can also benefit from the expertise of experienced professionals. This approach fosters collaboration within the community and stimulates the local economy.

IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY

The impact of these rental workshops is already noticeable. Local craftsmen, including young people and women, now have the opportunity to improve their skills and earn an income. The workshops are not just places to rent tools; they are also centers for learning and growth. Many craftsmen who use the rental workshops have been able to set up their own businesses or expand their existing operations.

Additionally, the workshops are a source of income for local businesses. The rental income is often reinvested into the community, such as supporting vulnerable groups and offering training for young people.

FUTURE GROWTH

With the launch of new workshops, such as the larger facility in Iganga, the network of rental workshops in the region is growing. This provides even more opportunities for craftsmen to develop their skills and generate a sustainable income.

The rental workshops of Gered Gereedschap are a brilliant example of how practical solutions can bring about significant changes in people’s lives. By providing craftsmen with the necessary tools, Gered Gereedschap not only helps them build their own futures but also contributes to the development of the entire community.

WHAT HAVE WE ACHIEVED?

A craftsman or craftswoman cannot work without tools. However, good tools and machines are often unaffordable for African artisans. By establishing 15 rental workshops in Jinja, we are making these tools accessible, creating jobs and income, and contributing to a life free from poverty.
