‘EVERYONE DESERVES A SECOND CHANCE AT A STABLE FUTURE.’

Gladson Msendera, Head of Training at Music Crossroads Malawi

“When we started the metalworking course in 2017, the goal was clear: we wanted to give former prisoners the chance to start over with solid vocational training as metalworkers. The idea that these young people with difficult backgrounds could still get the opportunity to rebuild their lives was a key motivation for us. We wanted to show them that they, like anyone else, have the right to a future.”

“The success of the program has far exceeded our expectations. Over the past few years, we have trained more than 360 young people, including an increasing number of youths without criminal backgrounds who also want to learn a trade. The fact that we now receive so much support from the community and that parents even approach us to train their children is a huge motivation for our team.”

“Thanks to the expansion with two additional workshops, we can now also train tailors and shoemakers. What matters most to us is that these young people can stand on their own feet after completing their training. They not only have the skills but also the confidence to start their own workshops or find work with local businesses. We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved so far, but this is just the beginning.”

WHAT HAVE WE ACHIEVED?

Successful vocational training expanded with two additional workshops: a metal workshop and a combined tailoring and shoemaking workshop. Gered Gereedschap was responsible for the construction of the workshops, using shipping containers, and also provided the complete equipment with the necessary tools, machines, and sewing machines.
